Fall 2017 Intern Blog Series: Light Amidst the Dark

If you have turned on the news, gone on social media, or even had a conversation with someone within the last month, chances are you have probably heard something about Hurricane Harvey. On August 25 one of the most devastating storms in American history touched down in Texas. With upwards of 70 deaths, the devastation is being compared to that of Hurricane Katrina. Amongst all the chaos that seems to be going on in the United States this year, it can be easy to let something like this make hope seem lost. There are plenty of ways to makes this dark situation a little lighter, however. While the average person might not be able to donate as much as Beyoncé, there is plenty that a non-celebrity can do to help those affected by the storm. The New York Times rounded up the most trustworthy organizations accepting donations and here are some of their recommendations: The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund: https://ghcf.org/hurricane-relief/ South Texas Blood and Tissue Center: https://southtexasblood.org/harvey Houston Humane Society: http://www.houstonhumane.org/ LGBTQ Disaster Relief Fund: https://my.reason2race.com/DNicol/HurricaneHarveyLGBTQDisasterReliefFund2017 United Way of Greater Houston: https://www.unitedwayhouston.org/flood Texas Diaper Bank: http://www.texasdiaperbank.org/ Trying to save the world can be a little overwhelming at times, but I hope that makes it a little easier to give back. As part of the Global Outreach Leaders team, my goal is to leave a positive footprint in as many parts of the world as possible, even if that is just with a $15 donation. My thoughts and condolences go out to the thousands of people whose lives have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.   Hannah M.]]>
